We have compiled some do's and don'ts when attending an interview;
DO'S
- Dress smartly and appropriately
- Make sure you know where you are going and who to ask for
- Check travel arrangements, parking and fares
- Research the company i.e. via the internet
- Smile when you arrive and leave and when appropriate during the interview
- Shake hands firmly and briefly
- Walk and sit with good posture
- Look at the interviewer as you speak to each other
- Speak clearly and loudly enough to be heard
- Judge when you have said enough
- Only ask questions that are important to you and ask in a positive manner
- Express an interest in the position applied for
- Ask questions about the company
- Thank the interviewer for his/her time at the end of the interview
DON'TS
- Arrive late or more than 15 minutes early
- Smoke, eat or chew gum even if offered
- Criticise previous employers or training schemes
- Slouch, fold your arms or adopt a posture which is defensive or aggressive
- Be passive and expect the interviewer to draw information from you
- Interrupt the interviewer
